Chrome Built-in AI and WebMCP: New Paths for React Apps
Adding AI to a React application often means calling a cloud model through a backend or running a model you manage locally.

Chrome offers another path: browser-managed AI capabilities exposed through web APIs. At the same time, WebMCP lets websites expose structured tools that agents can see and use.

In this 20-minute, demo-led talk, I will use a small React learning project to show a few Chrome built-in AI capabilities and the practical constraints around them: availability, model downloads, device requirements, browser support, and experimental access.

I will then introduce WebMCP, which is not another model API; instead, it is a way for websites to expose browser-visible tools to agents, either through declarative HTML or imperative JavaScript.

The goal is to help developers explore what they can build, understand where these technologies differ, and think about what changes when an application needs to work well for both people and agents.
