Today's workshop focused on DevOps and infrastructure, highlighting the importance of declarative infrastructure and quality in software. Encore, an open source SDK, was introduced as a solution to automate DevOps and improve workflow. It offers a seamless local development experience, automatic provisioning of cloud infrastructure, and integration with observability providers. Encore enables building and deploying applications with built-in DevOps automation, features like PubSub and authentication support, and a Cloud Dashboard for monitoring and management. It also allows for fast building of additional services, such as an analytics backend, and provides a complete system solution without the need for manual infrastructure setup.

Today's Talk discusses running TypeScript in WebAssembly on the cloud using Fermion's WebAssembly runtime. Fermion provides a serverless environment called Spin that allows for easy serverless application development in multiple languages. The process of creating a TypeScript serverless app with Spin involves installing Spin, creating a new app using the HTTP TS template, and testing it on localhost. To deploy the app, the 'spin deploy' command is used, and Fermi on cloud handles routing and makes the app accessible through a public URL.

Build serverless functions in TypeScript, and then compile them to WebAssembly (Wasm) to be run in the cloud. This is a different model than the original Wasm design suggested, but it is proving to be a powerful concept. In this talk, we dive into the background of Wasm, then look at its broader applications before examining a novel way of building TypeScript code into a Wasm binary for execution in the cloud.

The Talk discusses the concept of the Edge and its role in content delivery networks (CDNs). CDNs are designed to improve the delivery of static content but cannot distribute dynamically generated content. Edge computing is a distributed network architecture that processes data close to the source or users, enabling personalization, geolocation-based dynamic content, AV testing, and content authentication. Frameworks like NexGIS, Bercel, Netlify, AWS, and Remix offer edge computing capabilities through edge functions or middleware, allowing execution of server-side logic closer to end users.

While the technology goes further and further, web development tries to get closer to the user. CDNs and web servers are evolving, and they now offer us the possibility to execute server-side logic without depending on a unique data center located in a specific place in the world. Let’s present the concept of The Edge. We will see how it works, and we’ll talk about Edge Functions. We’ll discuss why the main hosting providers are introducing this technology, and why different JavaScript frameworks are modeling their approaches based on Edge computing.

Welcome to the Workshop on AppFlow and Setup! This workshop covers the setup and prerequisites for AppFlow, including debug builds, native cloud builds, and app store deployment. It also explains how to connect your app to AppFlow, initiate builds, and manage build stacks and test devices. The workshop covers code signing for iOS and Android, generating signing certificates and upload keys, and deploying apps to the App Store and Google Play. It also provides insights into app testing, releases, and submission processes, as well as resources for further information and support.

Deploying React Native apps manually on a local machine can be complex. The differences between Android and iOS require developers to use specific tools and processes for each platform, including hardware requirements for iOS. Manual deployments also make it difficult to manage signing credentials, environment configurations, track releases, and to collaborate as a team. Appflow is the cloud mobile DevOps platform built by Ionic. Using a service like Appflow to build React Native apps not only provides access to powerful computing resources, it can simplify the deployment process by providing a centralized environment for managing and distributing your app to multiple platforms. This can save time and resources, enable collaboration, as well as improve the overall reliability and scalability of an app. In this workshop, you’ll deploy a React Native application for delivery to Android and iOS test devices using Appflow. You’ll also learn the steps for publishing to Google Play and Apple App Stores. No previous experience with deploying native applications is required, and you’ll come away with a deeper understanding of the mobile deployment process and best practices for how to use a cloud mobile DevOps platform to ship quickly at scale.

Custom scoring can prioritize specific criteria. Consider analyzers, query operators, and scoring methods to optimize the search experience.

Building search into applications can be quite easy. This talk has been really fun for audiences because I often get audience members involved, often building out the code themselves, while they try to stump each other by naming the hardest things to find. The application is hosted in a Code Sandbox, so the audience takes the code home with them. Also, I can do the same presentation with movies, if the organizers prefer.

The Workshop covered various topics related to building a full stack news article application using Neo4j AuraDB, GraphQL, and Next.js. It discussed graph data models, traversing graphs, and building GraphQL APIs backed by Neo4j. The Neo4j GraphQL library was highlighted for its ability to generate resolver functions and optimize database queries. The Workshop also covered Next.js and deploying the application to Vercel. Custom logic was added to the GraphQL API using the Cypher-GraphQL-Schema directive.

In this workshop we will build and deploy a full stack GraphQL application using Next.js, Neo4j, and Vercel. Using a knowledge graph of news articles we will first build a GraphQL API using Next.js API routes and the Neo4j GraphQL Library. Next, we focus on the front-end, exploring how to use GraphQL for data fetching with a Next.js application. Lastly, we explore how to add personalization and content recommendation in our GraphQL API to serve relevant articles to our users, then deploy our application to the cloud using Vercel and Neo4j Aura. Today's workshop focused on observability in modern Node.js applications and the challenges in distributed systems. The workshop covered building an Express application, making API requests, deploying to AWS Lambda, and integrating with Epsilon for tracing and troubleshooting. Epsilon provides a comprehensive solution for monitoring and troubleshooting, including visualizing trace data, indexing requests, and creating alerts. The workshop also included a treasure hunt contest to find a hidden password within the APIs. Overall, the workshop emphasized the importance of observability and provided practical tools and techniques for implementing it in real-world applications.

The benefits of Node.js to develop real-time applications at scale are very well known. As Node.js architectures get more and more complex, visualization of your microservices-based architecture is crucial. However, the visualization of microservices is incredibly complex given the scale and the transactions across them. In this workshop, you will learn how to leverage service maps to instantly understand your architecture and troubleshoot any API error. We will write a simple Express application and explore best practices when using Express. Then, we’ll deploy the application on AWS, integrate the environment with Epsagon, and deep-dive into various features of the platform to enable immediate detection and fast troubleshooting of application errors. This Talk discusses building a highly scalable cloud API gateway with GraphQL using AWS AppSync. It covers the challenges of scalability, developer velocity, and cost in building APIs. The Talk provides a step-by-step guide on building a cloud API gateway using CDK and AppSync, including defining the schema, configuring data sources and permissions, creating resolvers, and deploying the API. It also highlights the flexibility and trade-offs of using AWS AppSync, testing GraphQL Lambdas, and the portability of the solution. The learning curve of AppSync has improved over time, and future updates are planned to further simplify the process.

One of the benefits of GraphQL is that it enables a single entry point into any number of back end service or databases. More and more companies are adopting cloud technologies – leading to more jobs, more money, and more opportunities in cloud computing. When GraphQL is integrated with a cloud back end, enabling secure and direct access to dozens of databases and managed services, the limitations are endless. The problem is often that building out these implementations from scratch, and getting them right, is hard. In this talk, I’ll show how you can build cloud-based GraphQL back ends connecting to multiple databases (SQL and NoSQL), serverless functions, machine learning services, and microservices using TypeScript, AppSync, and AWS CDK – and do so in fewer lines of code than you’d expect. We’ll also look at how subscriptions, security, caching, and authentication are all handled, enabling you to build APIs that can simultaneously connect to tens of millions of clients at once to offer true real-time applications at scale. This talk is about building full-stack cloud applications as a front-end developer using GraphQL and the GraphQL Transform library. It covers the three main parts of AWS Amplify: hosting, CLI, and client libraries. The GraphQL Transform library simplifies building a GraphQL API by handling schema creation, database interaction, and resolver mapping. It demonstrates how to use GraphQL transforms to build a GraphQL API with features like authorization rules, relationships, and local mocking. It also discusses the considerations for using managed services and the future of infrastructure as code with Amplify and other tools.

In this talk I’ll show how we can use a combination of GraphQL SDL along with a new DSL (GraphQL Transform) created the Amplify team to build out a full stack cloud application directly from your GraphQL schema. Using this GraphQL DSL, we’ll walk through how to model a Database, authorization rules, relationships, and custom access patterns.
