Transitioning from an individual contributor role to a leadership position, especially in the fast-paced tech industry, is hugely challenging. Most new leaders don't receive any training at all in the first 10 years of their new responsibilities.

Our comprehensive workshop is designed to assist new and emerging tech leaders in understanding their new roles and gaining the skills to make them confident, happy and effective leaders.

This workshop has been presented at TechLead Conference 2024, check out the latest edition of this Tech Conference.

FAQ

The workshop is three hours long with a break in the middle.

The workshop will cover what it means to be a leader, the leadership mindset, key skills for better leadership, the emotional journey of becoming a leader, and effective communication.

The workshop is facilitated by Andrew, who has been in the industry for around 20 years and has 15 years of leadership experience.

The second half of the workshop focuses on communication, which is considered the most important skill for tech leaders.

The workshop is designed to help new leaders, aspiring leaders, and those who have been leaders for a while, by covering a range of topics that can benefit everyone.

Andrew has 15 years of leadership experience, having started leading a team at the age of 24. He has made many mistakes and learned from them over the years to become a better leader.

The main goal of the workshop is to help participants understand what a leadership mindset is, acquire key leadership skills, and know what steps to take next in their leadership journey.

The workshop is structured as a discussion and dialogue rather than a monologue, encouraging participants to ask questions and engage in discussions.

Tech Leaders Launchpad is an online platform created by Andrew, designed for technology leadership skills. It offers monthly subscriptions and is similar to Pluralsight but focused on leadership.

Participants can revisit the workshop content through the Discord and Zoom links provided by Andrew, which include videos and text sections for easier searchability.

A Developer’s Guide to Communicating, Convincing, and Collaborating Effectively With Stakeholders
It’s a tale as old as time - collaboration between developers and business stakeholders has long been a challenge, with a lack of clear communication often leaving both sides frustrated. The best developers can deeply understand their business counterparts’ needs, effectively communicate technical strategy without losing the non-technical crowd, and convince the business to make the right decisions. Working at a consultancy, I’ve both failed and succeeded in architecting and “selling” technical visions, learning many lessons along the way.Whether you work at a product company, are a consultant/freelancer, or want to venture beyond just being a developer, the ability to convince and clearly communicate with stakeholders can set you apart in the tech industry. This becomes even more important with the rise of GenAI and the increasingly competitive developer market, as problem-solving and effective communication are key to positioning yourself. In this workshop, I’ll share real-world examples, both good and bad, and guide you through putting the theory into practice through dojos.
