How to create a website using Vultr Object Storage and Vultr Marketplace

♪♪ All right, so hey, what's up, everyone? My name is Walt Ribeiro. I'm Vulture's developer advocate, and coming at you today with a really cool workshop where I'm going to be showing you about Vulture's products. We actually just launched three new products, and I'll talk about that.

And we, over here in the chat room, oh, by the way, Lir, are you able to see the people in the chat room on the left side here? Can you see that? Or no? No, no. Oh, that's blank? Yeah. Okay, okay, I can see it because it's part of the Zoom GUI. So okay, that's why that's there. That's blank there so that I can see the chat room when you leave something in the chat. So we got people from all over. We got people from Germany, we have Colombia, we have Qatar, Puerto Rico, we have Ghana. So people are all around the world checking this out right now, which is great because Vulture is actually all around the world as well. We have 23 locations, everything from London.

And in fact, let me do, you know, Vulture locations. And let me see, let me grab this. I'll just show you what we have really quick. Here. So this is good, this map. So this shows you all of our current locations, everything from Toronto to New Jersey to London. You know, Singapore, we've got Australia and Melbourne and Sydney. So we're all over the map. Just like this studio audience here, this virtual studio audience here. So to talk about our products, we have for the most part three main product categories. So the way that I got to this, so if you want it to start on Vulture, you would go to my.vulture, or well you would go to vulture.com and create an account. So I'll go back to the beginning that when you do create that account and make sure that you use the, the coupon code get nation one five zero um, when you sign up. So when you do sign up, it brings you here to my dot Vulture.com. That's our main console. So I want to go back here and to start that I just go to deploy server. Oh, so someone's is coming in from Jamaica. What, wait, what time is it in Jamaica? Let's see.

12 o'clock. Okay. All right. So it's about lunchtime over there. Jamaica's only one hour behind, uh, you know, Phil uh, Philadelphia.

All right. Um, so vulture has three main product categories. We have our optimized cloud compute, our cloud compute, and then our bare metal servers. I'll zoom up so that we can just read this really quick. And our other mice cloud compute, it's really affordable virtual machines for production websites, uh, you know, continuous integration, transcoding large databases and more. And, uh, I'll talk more about our databases here at vulture to in a little bit because we, we, um, you know, we have something coming up there too.

Our next, um, vertical is just our base cloud compute. And these start as low as $2 and 50 cents. These are our virtual machines for low traffic websites, blogs, CMS, test environments, things like that. And smaller databases. And then, um, our, our, our big, our big ones are, are bare metal servers. This is our, are for single tenant, single tenant bare metal for apps with the most demanding performance and security requirements.

So if you want to start something on vulture, I'll just do something really simple. I'll say cloud compute. Uh, we have a bunch of different, uh, you know, choices here. We've added AMD cause, cause a lot of our customers wanted us to add Andy. So we listened to them a lot. And, uh, you know, we had all Intel and we now just added our Andy epic C uh, C uh, CP use. So, uh, I'm going to add that. These are all of our locations. I'm coming in from New York city. So I'm gonna, I'm going to go ahead and click on New York, New Jersey, there, uh, Philadelphia, New York, that same area. I'll stick here with Debian, just that's the default. So I'll S I'll stick with that. Let me just move this over.

Um, you can't see it, but the zoom overlay, um, you know, let me see, let's see if this fits. There we go. Okay. All right. That's not so. Uh, let me see. Can I push it over here? There we go. Okay. Good. Uh, zoom has different windows. I'm trying to move them around. You can't see it, but, uh, you know, they're all over the place over here.

So, um, all right. So then I'll add a 12 hour server auto backups. We had auto backups before, but now we made them their own section. So people really, really do see, um, you know, the importance of, you know, data backup and redundancy. And so you have that option there so that you can't skip it. And additional features, uh, IPV four, uh, we have our DDOS protection and uh, you know, you can also, um, I'm jumping all, uh, all around. Cause there's so much cool stuff to talk about.

Let me get, let, let me go back here onto our server image really quick. And if you, you, you can use one of our operating systems. Okay. They're here. We have windows, we have free BSD, we have Debian, but let's say that you had one of your own. You can upload your own ISO. Uh, just click on here, upload ISO, and you can upload your own custom, uh, uh, your own custom, um, operating system. So there's that option too, that, uh, is very unique to vulture and what we offer for our customers. And, uh, then that's it. So let me just go here. I'll click on Debian again.

Cause it, it knocked it out when I, you know, I clicked on a custom ISO and I'll just deploy just a small $14 server. And just like that, we're ready to go.

Now in terms of object storage, that would be over here. So to add object storage, it's really simple. Again, it's one click you're in $5 per, uh, per, uh, per month. I'll give it a label name, test cluster. That's great. I'll add, and now we have object storage ready to go.

So with vulture, you have all of your instances here, which we just added with our Debian server. And that's for things like if you want it to upload your own WordPress site or your own test environment. Now, if you're doing something where heavy, let's say artificial intelligence, uh, machine learning, let's say, you know, you're spinning up something, you know, for a like Kafka, uh, you know, thing, um, you know, we, we, we, we have different tiers for all of those solutions. Um, you have snapshots here, so that's if, um, you know, you want it to do a copy backup of your server. Um, so as I talked about, we have our custom ISOs, you've got scripting, we got DNS block storage, uh, objects, firewall network, load balancers. And just a few months ago, we, uh, we, um, we launched our Vulture Kubernetes engine. So for things like, if you don't want to deal with the complexities of Kubernetes, you can have Vulture deal with that. And then you just work on doing what you do best, which is, you know, which is building a great product for your customers. So we have, uh, a lot here at Vulture. Let me, uh, before I jump into the object storage thing for this workshop, let me just show you how easy it is. Let's say that you wanted to launch a WordPress, uh, website. So you can certainly spin up a server like I did here, and it doesn't have to be $14 a month. It could be, you know, a, a $2 and 50 cents server, like I showed you before. But, um, let's say that you wanted to start up a WordPress, uh, a WordPress instance on Vulture. You can certainly go into the certain role here. Let me actually go back. I'm going to spin up another one, deploy a new server. You can, I'll choose here, AMD, New York. You can go into the marketplace apps and these apps have everything. Uh, we have Lampstacks, we have WordPress, we have Docker, we've got solutions for, if you want to start a podcast, if you want it to start a video streaming platform, there are a lot of a one click solutions. So rather than you build it yourself and then install it, you can just, you can install it here in one click. Let's say if I want to start WordPress here, okay? And I'll just deploy now.

Just like that. I now have both a Debian instance and a WordPress instance really, really fast. But now let's say that I, um, you know, let's say I was going onto Vulture marketplace here. Uh, well, it's, it's vulture.com forward slash marketplace, but now over here, this is the front page. This is the storefront, uh, on our website about our marketplace. So if I wanted to launch, let's say I'm reading through here and I want it to launch, let's say, uh, something for a podcast, let's say, or let's say I want it to do something for live-streaming for video. Okay. Let's say I'm on owncast rather than you going through the process of going into my.vulture.com, let's say that you're reading this and you really like it and you want to start it up. You click on deploy. It kicks you out to my.vulture.com. Everything is already set up for you to go click on your location and then deploy. And just like that now on a $36 instance, the one that I chose cause I didn't change the server. We now have, um, just in a few clicks our Debian instance, our, our, our pre-configured WordPress, uh, WordPress, um, instance, and then we are pre our pre-configured own cast instance. Uh, all created three different ways. So that's how easy it is to get started on Vulture. That's a little bit about our, uh, our three product tiers and a little bit about our locations.

Now, with object storage, let's say that I wanted to start a website using Vulture's object storage. It's really simple. In here you have your buckets, you upload your HTML file, your CSS file, and then just like that, you know, you're now able to have a website live on Vulture servers, having access to our infrastructure. Our infrastructure is great for test environments with machine learning. Maybe you don't want to do anything big like that. Maybe you just want to start a simple website. So that's how easy it is to get started on Vulture.

And there's also, you know, you have access to the billing. We have an incredible support team. Our Vulture docs, it's just vulture.com/docs and our docs cover everything on our Vulture Kubernetes engine. We have things on Kubernetes Helm. We have solutions from the community that are leaving questions that we answer for people. So our docs are very extensive and we're adding to them every day too. So we're constantly adding new locations, we're constantly adding new docs, we're constantly adding new products. And so these three new products here with our optimized cloud compute, our cloud compute, and our bare metal are just some of the things that we have. We have block storage. We have a very powerful API, our load balancers, we have an open-source GitHub. In here, we have a bunch of repos for everything from our open-source projects for the community. We have our Google Golang, our Golang client here, we have a Terraform client, we have our node client. So there's a lot that Vulture offers for the community in terms of not just locations or products, but also in terms of documentation or marketplace or even some of these open-source projects that you can actually join and collaborate with our team of people here. So let me just jump over going back to Vulture Marketplace because I do want to talk about some of those things too in this workshop of how easy it is to not just start on Vulture Marketplace, but to also contribute to Vulture's Marketplace.

Let's say that there's an app here that maybe you're building at home and you want to submit that app to our infrastructure. You can either submit a marketplace to other people so that other developers can access that in one click and then install your app or product on Vulture's infrastructure through our 23 locations, or you can add one that someone else already has. It's really easy to get started. You would create your app as a snapshot, upload it to Vulture, and become a partner with us.

Um, but going back here into vulture marketplace, the great thing about it is that if you have an app or product or service that you want to submit, uh, um, that app to our infrastructure, uh, for you can, you can, um, either submit a marketplace to other people so that other developers can access that in one click and then install, excuse me, uh, and then install your app or product, uh, on vultures, um, on vultures infrastructure through our 23 locations, or you can add one that someone else already has. And, uh, it's really easy to get started. You would create your app as a snapshot, upload it to vulture, uh, become a partner with us. And, um, it's, it's just that simple. You, you can have different tiers. It can be a free app, it can be a freemium or a paid tier app. And so it's one way of not only just, um, creating an outreach for your app or service, but also, um, uh, to create some revenue if you wanted to, uh, you know, make it a paid product or service with any licensing we have, bring your own license, uh, you know, um, bring your own license, uh, uh, bring your own license options with vulture too. So, uh, there are many different ways, uh, of, of joining vultures marketplace, either as a developer wanting to submit something where as a developer, wanting to create something that's maybe already made through our apps.

I'll go through a couple of them here we have. Um, I'll click on here this is for marketplace. It's really convenient because we have this category here and I'll just go through a, a, a couple of things. Here we have our CMS, we have databases, blogs. If you wanted to create a forum rather than you building a forum or maybe spending time on trying to install a forum, you can just do a one-click installation of that form onto your server, built on vultures infrastructure.

We have web servers, I'll click on web servers. We can just look at some of the ones that we have here. Cyber panel, fast panel, uh, lamp stack, lamp stack. Uh, we have a lot of open lightspeed, um, apps within marketplace. So, and we're a very, uh, you know, like open company where that if there's something that we don't have here, send us a ticket, send us a ticket at support at vulture.com or create a ticketing system or create a ticket within our ticketing, within our ticketing system at my.vulture.com and let us know if there's an app that maybe, uh, that we're missing or that, you know, you think that we should maybe look into, we would love to hear from you and, uh, you know, we, um, you know, we, we just love to keep on learning, um, about maybe ways to improve our product. We worked very hard on creating a great product.

We have databases. I'll click on, on, on, uh, on some of these databases. We have cluster control fast panel, so they can give you some solution for MongoDB and for, and uh, you know, for, you know, like PostgreSQL and a bunch of other solutions as I talked about before with the forums. Um, you know, if you want to monitor some of the traffic coming in from your website, we have solutions there. So there are solutions with marketplace that cover a lot of different things and it can be something as simple as starting a podcast. So, uh, you know, um, whatever you wanted to start on, uh, on Vulture, we make it, uh, as possible. Um, we, we, we make it as much as possible to, uh, to make that a reality. And I guess, I guess, I guess that's it in terms of like what, of what we do and how to get started. how do the marketplace installations handle version upgrades? For example, WordPress, major upgrades. Um, we, uh, how, how, how do the marketplace installations handle version upgrades for example?

Oh, okay. So you're saying if you have cluster control version five and then cluster control uploads to version six. Um, I'm pretty sure it's pretty seamless. Uh, okay, got it. I'm pretty sure it's a pretty seamless integration. I do know that, um, uh, the person who built the marketplace app, he would, he would know more about that. I think I, I don't have the exact answer for that specifically, but if you were to create a support ticket, then our senior software dev who built marketplace could answer that for you. I'm pretty sure that because everything is taken care of, um, of upgrades through snapshots, it doesn't change or break anything is my understanding.

So, um, you know, and so when you start, it takes you here. And so there's a lot that we have. We have a referral program. So if you ever actually wanted to get any friends to join vulture, let's say that you, you have a good experience with vulture and, uh, you know, you want them to join, you would get paid, um, for that, for that, uh, for that referral. So you can get started on vulture for $150, and then you can extend that, uh, by telling other people about vulture as well. So, um, and then there's also a marketplace tab here, which takes you to the dedicated marketplace, um, you know, app. So this is if you wanted to add or upload or create your own marketplace app. So you, you want to do it through the product panel, you do it through here with the marketplace panel. And so there's a lot of, let me just push this down. Um, there's an extra real estate there on the bottom that I, I sh I should've been adding. And so, um, just to show you how, how, how quick and easy it is to not only propagate some of these servers, but also to destroy them.

So I'll click on this and let's say, I want it to stop it. I can either click on top here and click stop, or I'll say, yes, stop it. Or I can go here and then click stop server here. And I'm going to show you how easy it is to destroy a server as well.

Uh, so now it says they're stopping server. So let me go back here to products. And if I wanted to destroy a server, I'll go server destroy. I'll say yes, destroy the server. Now, if you don't know the difference between starting a server and then destroying a server, you, you would still have the server. Some people want servers to just sleep and then to turn them on at will. That's what this is. It gives you the option that you're still paying for the server while it's, it's, it's sleeping while it's stopped because you're still leasing that infrastructure, but you're, but it's not running.

So now that it's stopped, if I want to start it back up again, I go here server restart. And just like that, you're able to start and stop a server. Let me just click on that restart. And now it's, it's, it's restarting. I don't think you have everyone in the two field in zoom chat. No, oh host in. Oh, there's zoom has different. Okay. I'm sorry about that. Okay. Zoom. Zoom has a, zoom has an interesting way of doing chats. There we go. So now you can see it. How can I access the SSH, the SSH? Um, you would, you, I mean you can access as well. So in here, they give you access to everything here. So you would grab, uh, your SSH here, your root password. You can SSH to your server using something like terminal or PowerShell and you can SSH there, uh, into the server.

Uh, how can I, um, this, this code went out to everyone, right? It's saying everyone now before it looked like I was, I was best just saying only Lyra and the panelists, which I guess was, was me. Um, my question is on the marketplace are applications that are developed and published to the marketplace able to be monetized or are they all open source by default there? Uh, well they're open source by default, but yes, they can be monetized. Uh, in fact, there are a lot of apps that actually monetize on vulture marketplace. So it's, it's, um, the best model, uh, that, uh, a lot of our, uh, that a lot of our marketplace apps do. Let me, let me actually go back here. Um, is the freemium model where it's free to, let me, let, let me go here in to marketplace, um, browse apps and to become a vendor, you would just click here, become a vendor. And it's really simple. You just sign out this form, it gets sent to our senior software developer. He looks it over approves you. And the great thing is that when you upload a marketplace app, maybe something that you've built that you're trying to monetize or maybe you're, you're, you're trying to, to deploy to people. Um, uh, once, once you're accepted and the app is approved, future revisions and updates to that app don't have to be, um, I guess like reedited by Vulture. So once you become an approved vendor, you can just, just, you can just update your app as you go. And there's no wait time or, you know, three or four or five day review time to get that app as fast as possible. Maybe an update, a crucial update maybe to your customers as fast as possible. Uh, but so to go, to go back here to, uh, when I go to, um, to, to browse apps. Um, if I wanted to, like I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm trying, I'm trying to think of a good paid app. Uh, some of these apps are paid. I'm trying to think which ones are paid. I think cloud, I think cloud run has it.

I think where it's, it's free to try for as long as you want. And then to get one up, you have to go to their website, purchase a license and then take that license key and put it into the app. It can be as simple as like a login key with a, with a password where that's how you access like the next tier of the app.

Vulture has three awesome product tiers. I'll go back here and to deploy a new server. We have domain support too. There's a lot that I didn't talk about, but we have our optimized cloud storage. We have our cloud compute and then we have our bare metal servers.

Just a few clicks here. You have, you can upload your own custom ISOs. You can use one of ours, Debian, Windows, Windows Fedora. We have different compute tiers for everything. You know something as simple as a 30 gigabyte instance or you can do a one terabyte instance over here. And then we have automatic backups. We have DDoS protection, IPv6, IPv4, and then to deploy is really simple. And so just like that, I guess that wraps everything up. So I guess I'll stop. I'll stop there.
