Buddy is a CI/CD tool that lowers the entry threshold to DevOps simplifying pipeline configuration to bare minimum, enabling teams to embrace CI/CD with no dedicated engineers. During the presentation, we will show you how to create a fully functional JavaScript pipeline and adapt it to the workflow in your company in a couple of minutes. We are going to put special emphasis on features that help secure code quality, share some tricks that speed up the deployment (trigger conditions, cache, Docker, changeset deployments, parallelization), and show you how to preview deployed websites with no server infrastructure using Sandboxes – a unique feature of Buddy.

Buddy is a CI/CD tool used to create and manage delivery pipelines. In the workshop, it is used to demonstrate how to build, test, and deploy JavaScript applications efficiently.

CI/CD stands for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment/Delivery. The key components are Continuous Integration (merging changes frequently and running automated tests), Continuous Delivery (automating the release process up to the point of deployment), and Continuous Deployment (automating the entire journey from code commit to production deployment).

Setting up a basic delivery pipeline in Buddy involves creating a new project, adding actions to build the app, run unit tests, transfer files to a server, and run scripts to deploy the app. Additionally, setting up notifications for pipeline failures is recommended.

The workshop discusses several Git workflows including GitFlow, Forking Workflow, and Trunk Development Model. GitFlow involves using long-running branches like master and develop, along with feature and release branches. Forking Workflow is common in open source projects and involves contributors working on forked repositories. Trunk Development Model emphasizes small, frequent integrations into a single main branch.
